A Runners Insight
By Krista Lawell

I consider myself a fortunate person to be able to witness the dawn of a new day on the peninsula from 75 feet above Eagle Bluff in almost total silence. While getting up at 5:30 in the morning to go for a run isn’t for everyone, the serenity infused by the view from Eagle Tower at that hour makes one feel as though they’re on top of the world, even if only for a few moments before running down the steps to head off to the office, restaurant, resort, or worksite. more

runnerNearly 1,000 participate in 2nd Door County Half Marathon

Door County became Runner's World May 2, as over 1,000 people registered for the second Door County Half Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5K in Peninsula State Park.
Jason Ryf of Oshkosh repeated as half marathon winner, dominating the field again with a time of 1:09:02. Krista Cornelius finished first among women at 1:26:09, and Justin Freiberg took the 5K crown with a time of 18:00 minutes.>>>

By Gary Jones
If you were among the dozen or so who first crossed the finish line in the Door County Half Marathon in Peninsula Park on May 2nd, this is not for you. Turn to another article in the Pulse where you might find advice that will make you greener or a notice that will take you to a gallery opening.>>>

Myles Dannhausen Jr. writes about Door County's fastest growing race in an article dated 04/08/2009

Jason Ryf came charging down Shore Road through the budding woods of Peninsula State Park, hitting the final straightaway of the Door County Half Marathon in perfect stride. Jaws dropped at the finish last May 3 as Ryf came flying through. Nobody else was even close. >>>

runnerDoor County Goes the Distance
For many years Door County has been well known for things like cherries, pancakes, fish boils and sunsets. It is an extremely popular choice for families on vacation looking to relax, indulge, and enjoy some natural beauty. However, over the last few years, Door County has become a Mecca of sorts for a group of people on the opposite side of the tourist spectrum: the extreme athlete. >>>

Oshkosh's Ryf blows away the field
By Myles Dannhausen Jr.

Jason Ryf entered the first Door County Half Marathon at the last second. He finished it second to none. The 37 year-old Oshkosh West art teacher and assistant cross country coach dominated the May 3 race in Peninsula State Park from start to finish, crossing the line more than ten minutes ahead of second place Ryan Miller. Ryf finished in 1:08:57, a blistering pace of 5:16 per mile.>>>

runnerHalf Marathoners' Health in Experienced Hands
By Myles Dannhausen Jr.

Dr. Phil Arnold fills most of his calendar as a family doctor with North Shore Medical Clinic in Door County, finding an avenue for his sports medicine expertise by helping provide care and treatment to the peninsula’s high school and amateur athletes. But for a week in March he found himself a far cry from the fields and gymnasiums of Door County, working with some of the world’s best athletes in a much different venue – the Alps of Italy.>>>

runnerMy Half-Marathon Part 2
By Melissa Ripp
Around mile eleven and a half of the Door County Half Marathon, turning the corner from Bluff Road to Shore Road and running along Tennison Bay, I found myself face-to-face with a recently deceased fish. Well, more like foot-to-face – I pretty much tripped over it.>>>

runnerMy Half-Marathon Part 1
By Melissa Ripp
When my friend Elisabeth and I decided at the end of November that we were going to run the Door County Half Marathon at the beginning of May, I didn’t really think it was going to happen.
First of all, we were sitting side-by-side on Elisabeth’s too-comfortable couch, watching some completely ridiculous show on MTV, and sharing a delightful bottle of Shiraz. The show we were watching was one of those shows that you know you shouldn’t enjoy, but like many shows you shouldn’t enjoy, we were riveted – only speaking to each other in monosyllables until the commercials, when we would try to cover the past week of our lives and any news we had to report in about three minutes. Surely this absolutely crazy notion of running 13.1 miles had simply snuck into the conversation – surely neither one of us was actually serious. more
