Top finishers from the May 1 Door County Half Marathon are now available. The race in Peninsula State Park drew almost 1,500 runners to Fish Creek. Racers Against Childhood Cancer is sending ten runners to the Door County Half Marathon to raise money for the MACC Fund and Childrens Hospital of Wisconsin. They hope to raise $3,000 for the Registration is open for one of Door County’s favorite bike rides, The Ride for Nature to benefit The Ridges Sanctuary. The 22nd annual event will take place Saturday, June 19. Fundraising is going “really well” for five employees who are running the Door County Half Marathon on behalf of Scandia Village Good Samaritan in Sister Bay. Nicki Scharrig, Rich Demeuse, Michele Notz, Michelle Stoeckel and Joy Zakrzewski are working to raise $1,500 between them for the retirement home. In November the University of Wisconsin Cross Country team finished 7th in the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, IN, completing another stellar season that began on the trails of Peninsula State Park in August. Jenny Hadfield of Chicago Endurance Sports and Roy pirRUNg, a USA Track and Field Masters Hall of Famer, have hailed the course as one of the best half marathon courses in the country. Registration for the third annual Door County Half Marathon and Nicolet Bay 5k, a run in Door County’s Peninsula State Park, opens Nov. 1.
